Whatcom Horticultural Society

Grants Program

In 1994 the Whatcom Horticultural Society Board established a Reserve Fund, the purpose of which was two-fold: to provide a financial "safety net" for the Society and to provide a source of funding for outside projects which were worthy of financial support and were consistent with the Society’s mission of expanding community interest in gardening through educational activities.

Each year since 1994 the Board has made additional contributions to the Fund principal and, as a result, we are pleased that increasingly significant amounts of money have generally become available for Grants as a result.

Some of the programs/organizations we have helped to support in the past have included the Botanical Illustration Symposium, support for "The Corner Garden" television series, signage at the Skagit Valley Rose Society Demonstration Garden, and an ongoing book donation program with the Bellingham City Library.

If you know of similar programs that deserve and need financial support please contact us or have them contact us so that we can get them application materials. The deadline for applications is Nov. 1 and awards are made after the Board’s meeting in January.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Whatcom Horticultural Society is to expand community interest in gardening through educational activities.

We sponsor a wide variety of opportunities locally, providing exposure to historical, artistic, technical and cultural aspects of regional and worldwide gardening. We believe that an exploration of the many diverse aspects of gardening will promote increased skills and knowledge resulting in the beautification of public and private gardens in the Pacific Northwest.
