#1 Davey Silverman 500 Fieldston Rd, Bellingham

The tour first visited this beautiful Edgemoor property in 2014 when it was a newly planted “work in progress.” It’s been one of our most requested to view again. Now the front pond with its irises, epimedium and reed grass is a pleasure to behold. The”hot summer” border and careful hedge pruning in the backyard are an excellent example of how to preserve a view. You will see how the original native plantings in the shady courtyard have matured but you will also see how Davey Silverman’s vision for her garden has taken an abrupt turn with last summer’s addition to her family of a Shiloh Shepherd pup, Castle. In the past where deer could come and go, fences and gates now enclose the property. The Mediterranean garden where bunnies did the pruning has been uprooted and replaced by grass. A “digging sand box” is tucked into a flower bed. Path lights and irrigation systems have been installed, and a doggie septic system with steps leading to it has been added to the lower yard. Davey points out that by this time what should have been a mature landscape area is, after all of the changes, still a “work in progress!”

DIRECTIONS (from I-5) Take the Old Fairhaven Parkway, heading west towards Fairhaven. Turn left at 12th St and turn right onto Hawthorne at the next intersection. After 1/2 mile, turn left onto Fieldston. Do not park on the north side of Willow.
